There are many amazing monuments and sights seeing places which can be easily enjoyed in Paleochora. Let us discuss one by one. The surrounding area in Paleochora is awesome as Coherent Network Nature 2000 has protected it. It also has superb hiking paths which are found on European mountain trails E1 & E4.The coastal zone road in Paleochora which are really found interesting like, Sougia and Paleochora-Elafonisi. You can also enjoy Paleochora forests of Koisotgerakos-Epanochori; beach of Elafonisi, the gulf of Grammenos with Armirikia trees and with the cedar and last but not the least, the settlement of Azorgire. If we talk about Paleochora museums, it is called as the European Acrites museum, it was founded with Acrinet European framework by the folklore centre of Athens Academy, and we can say that it is one of the perfect museum. Elafonissos is one of the best and amazing beaches found in West Crete which is situated on the west side of Paleochora. There is also a small island which is situated on the opposite of the beach and can be reached by feet. The water is very superficial between the island and the beach. For its rose color sand, this beach is very much famous.
The gorge of Samaria is the longest monument there, which is of 18 km length with a height of 500 m and, it will at least take 5-6 hours to take a look. There are also some other gorges like Agia Irini, Kalogirou, Andri and Topliano. Paleochora also have some of the small churches with fascinating ethics and has many Byzantine monuments. There are also some Archaeological sites like; small theatres, the Doric building of Asklipios temple with the splendid mosaics in the ancient town of lissos which were built in 4th century BC. Kadros, Eliros, Irtakina, Pelkis, Suja, Viena, Tarras and Pikilassos are some of the ancient towns. The small island which is called as the island of Gavdos is situated in Libyan Sea. The best part is that every afternoon, tourists are taken through small boats from Paleochora to see the Wales and dolphins.
